Forcing myself through the black towards a light
that has evaded me for what feels like an eternity

Staggering, wounded.
Silent Virgil by my side.
With each step the light grows,
and in time, it envelopes me.

It burns my senses with its intensity.
The master antithesis of absence
Lord of illumination
Enemy of darkness
Ally to all creation.

Virgil winces at the sight of it.

(It burns my soul with its gaze)

Our presence startles,
and the intensity of the shine increases.
It begs for an explanation.
I oblige and begin to speak.

"I am in awe and left speechless by your majesty"

The flattery falls on aggravated ears,
and does nothing to stifle the light.

It borders on the threshold of pain.
I try again to speak,
but with each word the anger increases.
Each syllable suffering,
all prose increases pain.
I gasp to regain composure and scream

"What is it you want from me?"

It introduces agony.
This creature's trying to end me.
It introduces agony.
This creature's going to end me.
And with my final words,

I lament all of reality.

The light evaporates
and darkness once again consumes me.
I've abandoned all humanity.

I reach out for Virgil.
He takes my hand.
A child in the palm of its dad.
He reveals himself.

Virgil,
born of eagle,
bird of prey.

He leads us away.
The trials are left behind.
